The Lima Area Concert Band is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary season they never had last year. The orchestra’s first performance in over a year and a half will take place on August 7 at Elida high school. It focuses on celebrating 50 years, with pieces of music from the past half century. They will also perform a special piece composed for them by James Swearingen, a musical arranger with the Ohio State University Marching Band. Orchestra members say they were so excited to rehearse together.
“It’s wonderful to be able to perform again. You know, so many bands haven’t made it,” says Lucy Alstaetter, member of the Lima Area Concert Band. âI think a lot or most of us are finally able to do it again. But we’ll be playing in the community. At the fair, the Civic Center. But we’re very, very happy to be back and we we are missed. “
The group will give three performances this year. The first is at Elida High School (401 E North St, Elida, OH 45807) on Saturday August 7 at 7:30 p.m. Then, at the Allen County Fair on Friday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m., and finally at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center (7 Town Square, Lima, OH 45801) on Saturday September 11 at 7:30 p.m..
