The Boonville Concert Band will present their third concert of the season on Friday, August 20 at 7 p.m. in the lower pavilion of Erwin Park.
This week, the group presents musicians Ed and Evelyn Simanowski, who will perform “Moon River”. Ed Simanowski, a graduate of the Crane School of Music, has lived in Boonville for 20 years. He has been featured as a soloist with the Crane Wind Ensemble, the Black River Brass Quintet and the Boonville Town Band. He regularly lends his talents to the Boonville Town Band and the Adirondack High School Musical Pit Band.
Evelyn Simanowski, a 2021 graduate of Adirondack High School, has been active in concert choirs, concert bands, jazz bands, Evergreen performing choirs, and musical productions. Outside of school, she performed with the Boonville Concert Band and was a featured soloist with the Adirondack Community Chorus. She has been actively involved in community theaters in the region, including the Rome Community Theater, the Rome Capitol Theater Summerstage, and the M. Proctor Theater Guild. She also participated in the New England Conservatory Prep School National Youth Chorale Festival. Evelyn is the recipient of the 2021 Boonville Concert Band Scholarship. Evelyn attends Houghton College in the fall to study music education and music performance.
The group will also offer a program featuring popular numbers, including several that are often requested by the group and members of the public. “Oblivion”, by Astor Piazzolla, and arranged by Robert Longfield, will feature soloist Jon Magendanz. Soloist Tim Watson will be featured on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Music of the Night” The Phantom of the Opera. The West Side Story medley has tunes like “Tonight”, “Maria”, “I feel Pretty” and “Somewhere”.
The group will not perform any other concerts in August, but are looking forward to a concert in September with a date to be announced in the future. Martin Ischia, former principal of the Adirondack Central High School group, will lead. The group is co-managed by Ryan O’Neil, current group principal at Adirondack High School, and Heather Nunneker, vocal director at Adirondack High School. Sound is provided by Mitch Maryhugh, retired Pool and Audiovisual Director at Adirondack High School.
The Boonville Concert Band is sponsored by the Village and Town of Boonville and the Community Bank. This event is free and open to the public, although donations are accepted and appreciated.
All profits will go to the continuation of the group.
