An orchestra of SIXTY-TEN musicians and three singers will perform the music of Take That and Robbie Williams in the last performance of the famous local orchestra Pops Incorporated UK this weekend.
Following the sold-out success of their hugely popular Summer’s End Picnic Concert with fireworks at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens last month, the orchestra is heading inside for the event, at Thornden Hall on Saturday evening ( September 25).
Take That hits Shine, Rule The World, Greatest Day, Relight My Fire, How Deep Is Your Love and Never Forget will be among 22 remarkable songs that will be performed in Pops’ own style.
Robbie Williams’ hits will include Let Me Entertain You, Angels, Rock DJ and Millennium.
“We’re not small,” laughs Ron Armstrong, founder and musical director of Pops.
“We do stuff that other orchestras wouldn’t touch. There are so many orchestras that play classical music, but we like to be different. The Pops is like nothing else. Abba, Queen, The Beatles , you name it, we play it! ”
Founded in 1999, Pops Incorporated has a repertoire that ranges from contemporary pop to orchestrations of movie soundtracks, including Star Wars.
Harnessing the enthusiasm of dozens of talented musicians and singers from across Hampshire and Dorset, they have performed in the United States, Canada and France, including at Disneyland Paris.
A full James Bond concert is scheduled for next year and a family Mega Music Mix concert featuring music like Beyonce and Amy Winehouse will take place at Thornden Hall in November.
Tickets for Saturday’s concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., are available for £ 12 or £ 10 for concessions.
