The Magnolia Civic Center has announced a summer concert scheduled for Saturday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m. Brennan Villines Quartet presents The Jazz Age: Popular Music Through the Decades with a Jazz Twist. The Jazz Age is a unique show featuring early jazz tracks and modern pop songs with a jazz twist. From Cole Porter to Britney Spears, from The Beatles to Drake – from boomers to zoomers, it’s music everyone will enjoy.

Originally from a small town in western Kentucky, Brennan left home to attend the University of Memphis on a full music scholarship. A classically trained pianist, he didn’t always think of himself as a singer – far from it, in fact – but in college something started to change. He formed the Brennan Villines Trio. He found jazz, found musical friends, found collaborations and challenges. He found himself on stage, in the classroom and perhaps especially in the living room of an old mansion turned into a bar in the Victorian village where he started a residency during the week.

“Where I grew up there was no jazz jam stuff,” says Brennan. “There was nowhere I could just go and play – there was no one to teach me except classical piano or maybe pop. It was all musical theater or church music. . You try to find a soul out of that, in a Baptist church. So in college this opportunity came up at the Mollie Fontaine Lounge and I just loved it. That’s when I did. really started to get into my voice. I’ve always loved jazz and soul, and that’s where I started to develop tone and chops I’ve had it today It’s been a staple for a long time from the Memphis music community.

Villines appeared on FOX The Four’s singing competition in 2018, which featured Sean “Diddy” Combs, Meghan Trainor and DJ Khaled and caused a stir with his cover of 500 Miles by The Proclaimers.

According to Emily Draffen, director of the Magnolia Civic Center, “We look forward to welcoming this versatile and talented artist to New Albany. He has created this special jazz review for theaters like ours.”
