When the Jeff Little Trio performs at Lee Street Theater in Salisbury in 2020, Catawba College’s Faculty of Popular Music and resident artist Jeff Little will not only perform, but they will also have the opportunity to showcase the talents of three outstanding students. currently enrolled in Catawba’s popular music program.

With Little on piano, his son Luke Little on mandolin, and longtime colleague and award-winning musician Steve Lewis on acoustic guitar and five-string banjo, it promises to be a great night of music.

Catawba students Angel Paez by Charlotte, Dylan smith of the Trinity, and Dunn Hall of Salisbury will join the Jeff Little Trio in the second half of the show as the trio expand the circle of performers to share the spotlight on stage. All three students participate in Catawba’s popular music program and have individually achieved success and recognition for their music as undergraduates.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the music program at Catawba College and the Lee Street Theater. It’s a tradition of Jeff Little, something he did during his 15 years in higher education – at least one of his concerts each year serves as a fundraiser for the program in which he teaches and becomes a way to help showcase its students.co-jefflittle.png

Little has over 30 years of experience in the music industry as a critically acclaimed musician, artist director, educator, and music industry academic program administrator. His performances include venues such as the Smithsonian Institution, the American Folk Festival, the National Council for Traditional Arts, American Piano Masters and the PBS concert, “Doc Watson and Jeff Little”. It has been featured several times on PBS as well as NPR and has performed internationally for the Office of Educational and Cultural Affairs in countries such as Sri Lanka, Oman, Bahrain, Pakistan, France and Tanzania. He has worked in many management and production areas of the music industry, including with national artists such as Keith Urban and John Michael Montgomery.

Little is the recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, College of Education at the University of Texas. He is an affiliate songwriter with SESAC and in 2014 was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame.

About Catawba’s Music Business and Popular Music programs, Little says, “In addition to helping our students reach their highest artistic and creative potential as a musician or artist, we also want to provide a pathway to learning. employment in industry. Our program provides general industry knowledge, including business and technical aspects of the industry. This real-world study program, based on the current industry, will provide graduates with a broader pathway to employment, which is the first step in networking around their music and art.
