SALT LAKE CITY — The Temple Square Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra will host a special event in July designed to bring comfort and peace through music.
This special event, “Love Your Neighbor”, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16 at the Conference Center at 8 p.m.
“The world needs the comfort and peace that the music of the choir brings. The music and message of the concert will focus on the Savior’s second commandment to ‘love your neighbour,'” the choir president said. Michael O. Leavitt in a press release. “We aspire to help those who watch and listen to feel closer to God, experience his love, and feel inspired to share that love with others.”
Who is the featured soloist?
Shea Owens, director of opera at Brigham Young University and baritone, will be the star organist of “Love Thy Neighbor.”
- Owens was a member of the ensemble of the Théâtre Saint-Gall in Switzerland and performed several roles.
- He sings the Col. Ricci in “La Passion” by Sondheim at the Théâtre du Chátelet and joined the orchestra of the Grand Théatre de Genève in concerts of popular repertoire.
- Owens recently sang his first renditions of the title role of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” with the college choirs at the Madeleine Cathedral.
- He also returned this season to Utah Opera as Samuel in “The Pirates of Penzance.”

The event will air Saturday, July 16 at 8 p.m. on the choir’s YouTube channel, the choir’s website, Broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, and on five of the Church’s foreign-language YouTube channels (French, German , Italian, Portuguese and Spanish). ).
