Kicking off their seasonal holiday concert at The Woodlands in Hot Springs Village, the Hot Springs Concert Band opened the evening with their traditional honor The Star Spangled Banner. It was a great concert launch with A Christmas Festival, featuring a dozen Christmas favorites.
Candlelight Carol, honored a vision of Saint Bridget of Sweden at age 10 and seeing a newborn Jesus. It was a melody of singing angels followed by A Most Wonderful Christmas, arranged by Robert Sheldon, and later Frank Sinatra changed the lyrics to “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”.
Listen ! The Herald Angels Sing was conducted by none other than Maestro Phillip Wilson, with his own arrangement. Wilson, a New Mexico resident, calls HSV his second home. “My former student Millie (Gore Lancaster) who plays in this band, has been like my daughter for 60 years and I spend time with her and her husband every year,” Wilson said.
Many viewers enjoyed the music of A Charlie Brown Christmas and Bell Carol at the Big Band.
The wind section was presented performing cheerfully including the opening of the winds of Christmas and the cold thoughts joining In the Bleak Midwinter
The seasonal “Christmas” closed the concert with the final compositions, Christmas, Don’t Be Late, White Christmas, We Need a Little Christmas and It’s Christmas, the mix of classics as Dr Hamilton led the audience in long singing .
