Since his first concert in October 2012, he has attracted many big names including Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Angela Hewitt, Alina Ibragimova, Cédric Tiberghien, Johannes Moser, Tara Erraught and Finghin Collins. It is the only series of its kind in the entire Northeast and offers an intimate concert experience for audiences and performers.
Drogheda Classical Music is excited to return with live and in-person concerts this fall.
The opening concert on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. takes place in St. Peter’s Church in Ireland, Drogheda and presents an Irish mezzo Gemma Ni Bhriain with pianist Cahal masterson and cellist Yseult Cooper Stockdale. Featuring works by Schubert’s Berlioz, Schumann, Richard Strauss and Auf dem Strom, in a cello arrangement, this program highlights the beauty and natural association of voice and cello. At Saturday November 13 at 7:30 p.m. on Lir Quartet will be joined by the guest cellist Christophe marwood for Schubert’s Cello Quintet. The last piece of chamber music he wrote before his untimely death at the age of 31, it is a work of light and shadow, serenity and drama, and surely one of the most most recognizable and appreciated of his chamber music production. It will be paired with John Kinsella’s quartet ‘At the hearing of Purcell and Shostakovich at Bantry House – June 2008’. Book your tickets here.
The last concert of the fall season on Wednesday 8 December celebrates the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Although best known for opera, large orchestral works, and instrumental concertos, Saint-Saëns devoted much time and effort to writing chamber music. Marking the 100th anniversary of his death, this concert presents two of his great works, the piano quintet and his short and quirky septet for piano, strings and trumpet. This program will be carried out by Fiachra Garvey, Strings Musici Ireland and Niall O’Sullivan. Book your tickets here.
All concerts take place in St. Peter’s Church in Ireland, Drogheda and will be limited in number. The performances will last approximately 1 hour and will be performed without an intermission.
The series is funded by the Arts Council and Louth County Council and is run in partnership with the Droichead Arts Center with sponsorship from the Hotel d RTÃ Support the arts.
